Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to general questions that we receive on a regular basis.

1. How much does it cost to build and own a website?

Website pricing can be very confusing, as you can get something for virtually any price point. Whether it’s a site builder for a monthly fee like Wix or Squarespace, or an agency, which can charge upwards of $5000 AUD. Filtering out the noise would be nice, and that’s exactly a part of the experience in working with someone like me who has used every builder out there, has agency experience, and knows the strengths and weaknesses of both.

Our price points come in somewhere in between the two, but is definitely lower than a typical agency rate. On average, we can build a professional 10 page website for with a budget of approximately $1200 AUD. The full range of of price model is $600 for super basic to $4000 for more advanced projects based on functionalities, page count, and performance requirements.

All projects are built using an estimated hourly rate, with the diffence being handled at the end of a project, meaning you can go slightly over or under your initial estimate.

2. Should I buy my own domain and hosting and/or can you provide this?

We would advise that if you haven’t done this already, please refrain from purchasing a hosting plan before commencing a project with us. Purchasing the domain on your own is recommended, but we can also do it for you if that is your preference.

All websites are built on our own cloud based servers backed by industry leaders like Google Cloud, AWS, and Vultr. As hosting can be managed by us in this way, we are able to extend other important services with every website build including fast technical support, routine updates, reliable daily backups, and state of the art security.

Your hosting rate is based on the projected size and volume of traffic your website will have, as more traffic requires more power. All projects are fully scalable as well, meaning you can request more resources like CPU or Memory, or just have a dedicated server that isn’t shared with anyone else.

3. Do you build and support ecommerce websites?

6. What CMS and other technology is used to build a website?

Wp Logo

All websites we build use WordPress as the core CMS. As WordPress powers over 32% of the internet, we find that utilising its versatility for theme and plugin development is unmatched by any other platform. Not to mention that most people simply recognise the WordPress interface, making it easier to use for most clients.

That being said, we only use the WordPress framework, not to be confused with WordPress.com as a service. We also don’t just download any old theme and install it for you like a lot of the competition. Instead, we provide a customised theme that merges practical usability with unmatched performance results. If you don’t know how to code, don’t worry, we’ll never leave you with something you can’t use later on. Our theme is also compatible and often includes most modern page builders, including Visual Composer, Beaver Builder, and Elementor.

Our standard builder of choice is Elementor because of it’s ease of use, coding practices, and practical capabilities.

More information about our technology can be found on our Technology page.

7. After a website is built, will I have complete access (admin rights) to the website?

Yes, although we sometimes tailor website capabilities to each clients capabilities, we almost always include admin rights by default.

We will always grant full access upon request, but will charge by the hour to fix errors and issues outside the scope of our initial work.

8. How long does a typical website build take until it is ready?

Projects are individually assessed and scoped before you have to commit to anything. When you receive an official proposal, the estimated time and timeframe will be included. However, as a general guide, you can expect the following:

CASE 1: 5 – 10 page basic website with form and no custom integrations, appox. 1 – 2 weeks after content is received.

CASE 2: 10 – 20 page website with one or more forms, some customisation, light eccommerce optional, approx. 2 – 3 weeks.

CASE 3: 20+ page website with one or more forms, design work, extra web development, ecommerce and 3rd party extensions, approx. 4 – 6 weeks.

More information on the web build timeframe can be found here.

9. Is technical support included with the website?

Yes, technical support is included with every website we build. If an problem arises on your website that is caused by oversight, theme bug, or misses the mark as stated in your initial brief, we will always be there to fix these issues free of charge.

If anything breaks because of new plugins or additional changes, or simply you made a mistake that you can’t undo, just let us know and we can of course help solve the problem. We bill hourly, or by 30 minutes, whatever is closer to the time spent fixing the issue.

10. Will I be able to edit my website after it is built, especially if I don't know a thing about code?

Yes, you will be able to make edits quite easily without a working knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, etc, using a visual drag and drop editor. All websites are built in a modular fashion, meaning that the components are easy to edit individually and aren’t cobbled together just to work once. Components and templates can be re-used if you have a moderate understanding of the WordPress CMS. If not, we offer optional training to help familiarise you with the tools used to build your site.

Although some coding is involved on our end at the start, we keep you in mind at the end. If you requested that your project be hand crafted or has heavy integration features, it may be harder to edit as a result. If this is the case, we will usually suggest an onboarding training session when the site goes live to make sure you have a handle on it.
