Why Web Hosting Matters

Speed is everything

Let’s face it, none of us like waiting for very long, and this couldn’t be any truer when it comes to browsing a website. Most of us can recall a few times where a slow or unresponsive site just made us “give up” after a while. Interestingly enough, the data supports this idea as well.

Over 60% of potential customers are lost when a website takes 5+ seconds to load. This lines up with the other data point – that approximately 64% of mobile users expect a website to load in under 4 seconds.

How slow website affect your bottom line

While you may be considering a budget host like Crazy Domains, Netregistry, GoDaddy, etc., it literally does not pay to not invest in something that has limited dedicated resource, reliability, and spotty support. In some cases, like running a non-profit blog, this is a perfectly suitable option. However, in almost every other case, a website exists to make more money – whether through increasing brand awareness or selling products online. Regardless, reaching more customers is generally the goal, which means it’s worth investing a little more.

Using free online tools to get the edge

There are some great tools online that I use to evaluate performance metrics. Here are the top ones I use on a daily basis:

  1. GTMetrix
  2. Pingdom Tools
  3. Google Lighthouse

In the example below, you can see an ideal result when running the test. Although a letter grade isn’t everything, the key thing to look at is the Fully Loaded time. This is typically how long it will take a standard internet connection to load your site.

Picking the right web host for you

When we build websites, there is a reason we always include our own hosting solution with them. To provide the best results for your site, we prefer providing a heavily optimised web hosting solution, rather than working with something that isn’t up to scratch. Not only does this allow us to work faster on your site, but it also translates into reliable results like the above example.

You can find out more about which cloud hosting providers we use and how it is implemented here.

Because we are not bound by limitations of a slow host, we can provide a website that not only looks great, but also a super-fast experience that converts and brings in more business.
